The Great Canadian Beer Festival. [September] 1237 Rockcrest Place, Victoria, BC, V9A 4W5. Canada. Chairman: Gerry Hieter. Tel: 250 383-2332. Fax: 250 595-7729.
One of the major differences between the GCBF and other beer festivals is that, every year, we sit down and discuss who we want to see at our festival. There are some high standards to meet before the call goes out: ours is a celebration of the brewing craft and we carefully consider things such as the quality of the beer and also the integrity of the brewer and the ethics of the company that owns the brewery.

The New Galt Cook Book
The New Galt Cook Book is a revised edition of a book that was popular in English Canada, particularly in the vicinity of Galt in south-western Ontario. The publishers also claimed that copies of the book were sent to China, Egypt, India, South Africa, Australia and the United States. Like many early cookbooks, this collection offered recipes as well as hints for simplifying domestic chores, and a list of cures for common illnesses.
You can browse The New Galt Cook Book by selecting one of the headings below, or return to the Search Cookbooks page in order to search for individual recipes and ingredients.

McGill University Collection
Many libraries at McGill University house cookbooks: the Humanities and Social Sciences Library, the Macdonald College Library and the Rare Books and Special Collections Division. Many of these titles are listed on MUSE2, the McGill Libraries on-line catalogue. However a significant number of titles in the Rare Books and Special Collections Division are not listed in that catalogue; they are now available from this site.

Mushrooms: Fungus - Edible & Poisonous. John A. Vance.
Believe it or not, over the human's existence here on earth, much of our knowledge today is from trial and error. Indeed, somewhere, sometime, someone, has eaten most every kind of mushroom/fungus growing, and has either lived - or died, or may have become extremely ill from the event! But edible fungi are excellent and flavourful, and seem to have been worth the extreme pleasure when people hit on the edible varieties, but oh - what a sad down side if the fungus was one of the bad ones!
