Windy Ridge Vineyard & Winery. 527 Fish Creek-Foster Road, Foster, Victoria, 3960. Tel: 03 5682 2035. Mobile: 0416 192 264.
In 1985 we purchased the vineyard which had been planted in 1978 by Dr Chris Hill. We built the winery, and made the first wines in 1988. Each year since then, except 1992 & 1993, we have made a PINOT NOIR and a CABERNET SAUVIGNON & MALBEC blend. We also now offer tiny quantities of dry TRAMINER. Being the southern-most winery on the Australian mainland (approximately 150km/95miles south-east of Melbourne, within 5km/3miles of the coast overlooking WILSON'S PROMONTORY; Latitude 38.6 degrees South) our unirrigated grapes ripen slowly, developing intense varietal flavours and deep rich colours in the reds. After open vat fermentation & soft basket pressing, we mature the red wines for up to five years in a mix of old and new French &/or American oak. When released, the unfiltered wines will continue to develop in fruitiness and complexity, and slowly soften and improve for at least 8 to 10 years from the year of vintage. All of the table wines are 100% grown, made and bottled at Windy Ridge by the owners.
